If you have kids, grandchildren or are working through the holidays with just the odd day off, there are good times right on our doorstep, here in Perth.

Here are three ideas . . .

+ There’s a colourful free show at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Paola Pivi’s “I don’t like it, I love it” includes three new feathered polar bears created for the show. Pivi’s iconic bears symbolise a connection between humanity and the natural world and highlight the vulnerability polar bears face with climate change. Don’t miss the 1000 suspended trays of colourful liquid up in AGWA’s Rooftop Gallery. They remind us of the beauty of stained glass and the entangled connections between the sky, light and the gallery building. The gallery is open from 10am to 5pm.

+ Lots of kids like cars, and the Motor Museum of WA, at Whiteman Park, has plenty (including Daniel Ricciardo’s three-times grand prix winning car). There’s a family entry pass of $40 for two adults and two children and it is open daily from 10am to 4pm. motormuseumwa.com.au

+ Down at WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle, they have “From Nonna with Love: Stories of Tradition and Triumph”. It brings to life the inspiring journeys of many Italian women who made WA home, after leaving Italy in search of a better future. Personal stories are told through photographs and meaningful objects, as heartfelt memories are shared at Nonna’s kitchen table (yes, with the aromas of traditional home-cooked meals). The museum is open daily and From Nonna with Love is included in the general admission of $15 for adults, $10 for concession, with children free. Book at visit.museum.wa.gov.au.
