Travis Kelce says he is still ‘giddy’ over engagement to Taylor Swift

For the third week in a row, Taylor Swift has been the focus of a football podcast.

Before the start of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday (Friday AEST), Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took time to discuss his now-fiancée on New Heights, the podcast he co-hosts with brother and former Philadelphia Eagle Jason Kelce.

“It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with,” Travis Kelce said on Wednesday’s new episode in his first comments since the news of their engagement.

In what Jason Kelce called “the Instagram post heard ‘round the world,” the couple announced the news following their two-year love story last week with a post featuring shots of Travis Kelce down on one knee and a close-up of Swift’s new bling.

The freshly-engaged couple was spotted cheering on the Cincinnati Bearcats at the team’s first game of the college football season last week, which Travis Kelce said was the first time he got to introduce Swift as his fiancée.

He said doing so was “pretty cool” and that he got giddy saying it.

“I still get giddy,” he added. “Exciting times. It’s still fresh.”

Travis Kelce said “seeing the internet go crazy” when he and Swift posted their announcement on Instagram has been “so much fun.” The post has since racked up more than 36 million likes.

He also thanked “everybody that reached out and sent something,” though he didn’t offer any hints as to who congratulated the couple or what gifts they sent.

Jason Kelce chimed in, saying that people have reached out to him to share their well-wishes for his brother and Swift, including former coaches and friends who have asked him to congratulate the couple on their behalf

Travis Kelce shared some advice for fans of the podcast who are getting ready to pop the question themselves: “You can’t let how somebody else does it make you feel like you need to do it that way,” he said of the proposal.

“I would just say, know your partner,” Travis Kelce continued. “Know who you’re doing it for, and do it for the right reasons.”

The brothers’ dad, Ed Kelce, was loose-lipped about details of the engagement last week. He joined The Jimmy & Nath Show With Emma, and revealed that both he and Swift’s dad, Scott Swift, encouraged Travis Kelce to propose sooner rather than later, and to forgo a “big production” for a more personal proposal in his backyard.

“I told him the same thing that Scott told him: Asking her is what’s going to make it special, not where you do it,” Ed Kelce recalled saying.
