Kmart has recalled three children’s toy sets amid fears they contain sand contaminated with asbestos.

The latest recall involves HL Toys International’s ‘Sensory Activity Sets’ featuring Paw Patrol, Frozen 2 and Bluey licensed toys.

The recall relates to product SKU numbers: 43625239, 43610266 and 43610259 sold between 8 October 2025 and 17 November 2025.

The activity sets are the latest additions to a growing list of recalled kinetic sand products.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commissioner (ACCC) continue to encourage those affected to stop using any identified sand products immediately.

Kmart took to social media to share the product recall.

“The products are being recalled because the sand may include asbestos, which is a prohibited substance in Australia,” the statement read.

“Customers should immediately stop using the products and safely dispose of the products.”

The ACCC recently issued a seperate warning relating to products by CleverPatch, including coloured sand, glitter sand and arts kits.

A full list of recalled CleverPatch products is available on the ACCC website.

“The products may cause a risk to health as tremolite and chrysolite asbestos has been detected in some samples after laboratory testing,” the ACCC website said.

“While the risk that any asbestos found is likely to be airborne or fine enough for inhalation is low, this may still pose a risk.”

The latest recall comes almost one month after the ACCC issued a nationwide warning in November that forced hundreds of Australian schools to temporarily close.

Popular toys sold at Kmart and Target were ripped off shelves while schools and parents rushed to dispose of the potentially hazardous products.

Kmart’s 14-piece Sand Castle Building Set and their Blue, Green and Pink Magic Sand product were some of the first to be recalled.

A Kmart spokesperson said the stores had acted quickly,

“In mid-November, Kmart and Target recalled sand-based toy products as part of industry-wide concerns about several imported sand-based toy products,” the spokesperson said.

“When notified of the potential for traces of asbestos to be detected in sand-based toy products, Kmart and Target immediately commenced investigation of sand-based toy products and has this week announced a voluntary recall of the Make Your Own Unicorn Sand Ornaments product after test results detected traces of tremolite asbestos.

“This is the same type that has been identified in other sand products sold by retailers across the industry.

“As two of Australia’s most trusted brands, we put customer safety and product integrity first.

“While independent experts have commented that the risk is ‘negligible’, the traces of asbestos as detected here is not acceptable.”
