My Space: social media expert Taylor Morgan combines feasting and family functionality at Nedlands home

Taylor Morgan has such a large family that she needs a 3m dining table. “If I invite my family alone for a casual midweek dinner, it’s over 20 people,” laughs Morgan. “So, we had the table custom built in our backyard and, yet, the other day I still had to add another table to the end of it because there were so many people.” Whether it’s having friends over for a casual Friday wine or a long table dinner, Morgan, founder of social media management and training business Taylor Morgan Creative, and her partner Oliver (Oli) Telford are big entertainers. “We both love to cook and Oli is the best seafood cook. The kitchen actually has an industrial oven, which is a life saver for us and one of my favourite features of the house,” she says. The cosy two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage was originally Telford’s bachelor pad before Morgan moved in. Although the home is small, the high ceilings, large rooms and wooden floorboards create a sense of space. “Oli has been here for about seven years now, and I moved in about three years ago. We love Nedlands and it’s super close to Oli’s family and the street is quiet and there are lots of trees,” she explains. Over the years, she has slowly transformed the space into an inviting family home for their one-year-old son Archibald Ocean Telford, and three dogs, Gigi, Bambi, and Indi. “The house is a mish-mosh of refined coastal style, while also maintaining family functionality,” she laughs. “Mum always instilled in me that no matter what the budget is, you can always make a space your own.” The furniture is a mix of wooden and rattan pieces, while on the walls are artworks by WA artists Pippa McManus, Isabelle Crohan and Elena Circosta. Although a rental, the couple have been lucky enough to be able to do some minor renovations over the year. The laundry and bathroom, complete with original pink bath, were renovated, along with Archie’s room. “We knew that once Archie was born, we would be spending a lot of time in the laundry and bathroom, so we decided to make it more functional,” explains Morgan. “In Archie’s room we ripped out some built-in cupboards and I’ve upcycled a set of drawers that belonged to my mum and the rocking horse is a very sentimental, as it was a given to Oli by his grandfather when he was little.” The front deck was also renovated and is now one of her favourite places in the home. “I work from home, so at the end of the day, it’s so nice to sit out on the front deck with friends and a glass of wine, while the kids just run around and play in the sandpit. The decking is all fenced off, so the kids can’t get out and I just love the view of the street and all the trees,’ she says.
