Albany Roller Derby ends season with sold-out double header at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre

Albany Roller Derby wrapped up its 2025 season in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 300 spectators on October 18, delivering two high-intensity games in a display of skill and teamwork.

The evening opened with the junior clash between the Albany Roller Derby Riptides and West Coast Junior Roller Derby.

Despite a strong start and determined defensive work from the home side, West Coast maintained steady control to secure the win, 137–84.

The Riptides’ Abigail Dickinson and Eloise Braidwood were named best of the match for Albany, while Lexi Turland and Calais McIntyre earned top honours for West Coast.

In the headline bout, the Great Southern Breakers took on The World, a potluck team of skaters from across WA.

The lead changed multiple times throughout the fast-paced physical contest, with the Breakers edging out a thrilling 128–126 victory in the final jam.

MVP awards went to Cassandra Fletcher and Kore Ford for Albany, and Hazel Harrison and Valeska Hallett for The World.

Albany club president Natalie Jarvis said the night was a celebration of dedication and community spirit.

“It was inspiring to see the Albany community really come out and support the skaters,” she said.

“The hard work and dedication of all our skaters and officials really showed on the track.”

Albany Roller Derby thanked event sponsors TerryWhite Chemmart Chester Pass, Southern Ports and the City of Albany for their support in making the event possible.

Their contributions helped create an unforgettable evening of sport and entertainment for the local community.

Not only did the crowd get some amazing sporting action, half-time line dancing, music, raffles and a performance from the Albany City Pipe Band, the event was a showcase of local energy and enthusiasm for roller derby.

Albany Roller Derby thanked all visiting teams, coaches, volunteers, and fans for their continued support throughout 2025 and is looking forward to an even bigger return in 2026.
