Redmond crash: Major crash officers investigate level crossing crash scene after woman dies near Albany

Major crash officers combed the scene on Thursday as they piece their investigation together after the fatal crash near Albany, involving a car and a grain train. Roads around the level crossing, close to the Redmond townsite, were closed on Thursday as authorities investigate how the horror crash occurred. Tragically a 29-year-old woman, who was the passenger in a Mitsubishi Triton, suffered critical injuries and died at the crash scene at about 2pm on Wednesday. Police say the black Mitsubishi Triton was driving east on Redmond-Hay River Road and a train travelling north were involved in the fatal collision. The 39-year-old male driver of the vehicle and three children under the age of 10 sustained minor injuries and were taken to Albany Health Campus. On Thursday, officers from Major Crash Investigation Section used a drone, measuring equipment and took photos as part of their examination of the scene. The CBH grain train was still stationary on the tracks on Thursday morning and was moved after 1pm, with surrounding roads also being re-opened. It is understood the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will conduct their own independent investigation. The fatal crash happened at the level crossing on Redmond-Hay River Road near Redmond Street and Siding Road. A WA Country Health spokesperson said on Thursday the male driver and three juveniles were in a stable condition in hospital.
