Scales of online poetic justice

Staff reporter, GERALDTON GUARDIANGeraldton Guardian

Somewhere in Geraldton, a man who allegedly assaulted someone at the weekend is now feeling the pain himself - after police described him online as being of “fat build”.

On the local police Facebook page, it prompted this retort:

“[Name removed] is that you buddy? Haha fat build. Haha just kiddin”

“[Name removed] Haha I lost weight thank you :p”

Some might say that was an oversight by an over-zealous social media savvy officer, but we say otherwise.

We can picture one of the following three scenarios at play here:

It’s a clever attempt to flush the crook out. “Hey, I’m not fat,” says red-faced baddie, who storms into the police station to protest.

It’s the latest method of counter-attack for police, to punish crooks for their crimes.

Or, tired of being the brunt of jokes about living on take-away and donuts, police decided to give someone else a taste of what it feels like.

As we like to say: never let the fat get in the way of a good story.
