Reigning WKFL premiers Cable Beach remain undefeated, look set to repeat 2021 feat
Reigning West Kimberley Football League premiers the Cable Beach Greenbacks are sitting undefeated at the top of the league after eight rounds, and look destined for back-to-back premierships.
Adding to their stellar perfomances this season, the Greenbacks were able to down the Broome Saints Football Club in a match slightly closer to what they’re used to, winning 13.10 (88) to 6.5 (41).
Daniel Cox, Steven Garlett , Keifer Yu, Sonny Dann and Sam Reddaway were the players to watch, with Yu scoring an impressive six goals just one week after he bagged a mammoth eleven.
Elsewhere in the league, the Looma Eagles destroyed the Peninsula Bombers, kicking over 20 goals.
Looma’s best players were Gilbert Barli, Henry Skinner, Kye Pindan, Deromitt Wilson and Courtney Thomas, with Wilson also scoring the most goals for the Eagles, slotting five over the course of the match.
The best players for the Bombers were Lesliey Sampi, Dane Victor, Terykk Cox, Mario Rex and Jason Binjalil.
But despite the Bombers best efforts they were no match for the Looma Eagles who defeated them by 126 points, 22.13 (145) to 3.1 (19).
The Derby Tigers Football Club won another easy match against the Bidyadanga Emus on Saturday afternoon.
Huzlemi Hunter, Jevahnis Badal, Ashley Bal Bal, Marvin Thomas and Rowan Thomas were named the best players for the Emus with Badal and Aaron Thomas tied for best scorer with three goals each.
But Bidyadanga were easily overcome, with last years runner-ups defeating them by 76 points, 19.11 (125) to 7.7 (49).
The Broome Towns struck down the Broome Bulls on Saturday afternoon, taking another easy win, 10.12 (72) to 3.5 (23).
Sean Gregory and Kevin Skeen were the best goal scorers for the Towns, scoring three goals each.
