Robert David Reti: Trial hears two girls alleged childcare worker touched them sexually at Perth centres

A Perth mother has testified how she was left with a “pounding heart” after picking up her four-year-old daughter from childcare and being told she had been molested by her educator. The 34-year-old mother was giving evidence at the District Court trial of Robert David Reti, who is accused of indecently dealing with two girls, aged four and six, at two child care centre in Perth’s northern suburbs and Perth Hills in 2023. Prosecutor Kathryn Kraus on Tuesday alleged Mr Reti “sexually touched two young girls under his care.” It is alleged he sexually abused a four-year-old girl while she was wearing underwear. It is alleged Mr Reti touched the six-year-old girl on the chest and vagina over her clothes, and on another occasion touched her “on her knicker line.” Giving evidence, the mother of the four-year-old girl said her two children were chatting in the back of the car when she heard her daughter say “willy poking my nu-nu.” When she asked her daughter:” What did you say?”, the court was told the girl replied that her educator Rob’s “willy was poking out of his shorts.” “It touched my nu-nu and it tickled,” the girl allegedly said. The mother said “my heart started to pound.” “Everything kind of blinkered and I was like, just get home safely, because I was driving. And when I got home I called a non-emergency police number to ask their advice,” she said. Ms Kraus said the second girl, now aged nine, told her mother in January this year about the incidents alleged to have happened in 2023. During her police interview, the second alleged victim said she was sitting in his lap when he touched her on her “private part” for about five seconds and then she got up and gave him a, “death stare.” She said he responded with an, “evil grin.” Mr Glenister told the jury that his client denied the allegations stating the “essential issue,” would be whether the children gave, “credible, accurate and reliable evidence.” He said his client would give evidence at the trial that, “he did not indecently deal with those children. “Once you consider that evidence that will leave you to have a reasonable doubt about his guilt,” he said.
