A pedestrian was thrown over a limestone retaining wall and left seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle that allegedly lost control in North Beach on Saturday morning.

The man in his 60s was injured after police said two vehicles collided on the busy coastal stretch between West Coast Drive near Malcolm Street about 11.15am.

Police allege a white Ford Ranger lost control and collided with a blue Holden Frontera station wagon before mounting the footpath and striking the man.

The force of the impact pushed him over a limestone retaining wall and into the bushes below.

The collision caused significant damage to the wall and a nearby light pole, which then fell onto the footpath before the Ford Ranger came to a complete stop in the southbound lane.
