Police charge man with nine offences after motorcycle pursuit starts in Kewdale, ends in Champion Lakes

A backpack allegedly containing cocaine and tens of thousands in cash has been seized by police following a high-speed pursuit of an unlicensed motorcyclist through Perth’s south. Cannington detectives charged a 37-year-old man with nine offences after police tried to stop a black Harley Davidson motorcycle at a service station in Kewdale about 12.30am on Wednesday. Police claim the bike had no registration plate while at the station on Orrong Road, before the rider sped away as officers tried to approach him. A police spokesman said the rider didn’t stop for officers while travelling at “excessive speeds and through red traffic control lights”. The motorcyclist did eventually stop and was placed under arrest at the intersection of Tonkin Highway and Ranford Avenue in Champion Lakes. He was later charged by detectives with nine offences, including possessing cocaine with intent to sell or supply. Police allege he was in possession of MDMA, methamphetamine, ketamine and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with a proceeds of crime offences related to more than $35,000 cash police found during their search. The accused will face Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
