The playing future of local cricket star Brady Collins — who is accused of a hit-and-run which left a young woman with horrific injuries — is up in the air as his club confirms it will await the outcome of his next date in court in January.

Collins allegedly struck the 18-year-old woman he was in a relationship with, who was dragged under the Holden utility, during a confrontation in Utakarra on Sunday night before leaving the scene and leaving the alleged victim injured on the road.

The 18-year-old woman, who was flown to Royal Perth Hospital in a serious but stable condition, was left with broken ribs and jaw and fractures to a shoulder and her legs. The court was told she may not be able to walk for six months.

Collins, 25, is on bail on charges of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, being the driver involved in an incident causing grievous bodily harm, failing to report the incident and failing to stop. He has not been required to enter any pleas and is next due to face court on January 30.

Collins, who plays for Towns, is one of the league’s best cricketers and was the joint winner of the Doug Hogue medal earlier this year.

He leads this season’s cricketer of the year standings, sitting second on the run-scoring table averaging 27.9 with the bat and just 11.88 with the ball.

With the league going into a break over Christmas, the club confirmed a decision on Collins’ playing future would not be made until the new year.

“As local men’s cricket has gone into the Christmas break recess and doesn’t resume until February 4, then as a club Towns is not required make a call on (his) eligibility to play at this stage,” Towns’ president Mike McQuie said.

“We will await the outcome of his January 30 court case as to any future decision.”
