Christmas on the Terrace: Bustling markets see thousands flood Geraldton’s CBD for gifts and tasty treats
Christmas came to life in Geraldton’s CBD on Thursday, as thousands flocked to the main street in search of delicious food, locally made gifts and an evening of family fun.
As the days heat up, families are preparing to embrace the magic of Christmas, ushering in a season of joy, goodwill and festive cheer.
With that came another successful night of bustling Christmas on the Terrace markets, with the Geraldton community flooding the city centre from 5pm.
Some attended in search of Christmas gifts, while others went to celebrate one of the most popular events on the calendar or just wanted a bite to eat from one of the many food vans.
About 100 stallholders set out their wares, offering scrumptious bites, fragrant body products, home decor, jewellery, clothing, and other gadgets, as well as advertising hard-to-resist deals for those gift hunters searching for something a bit unique and quirky.
A stage and fire trucks on display at Edith Cowan Square attracted the attention of hundreds of children who learnt about the role of a firefighter.
With faces painted, bubbles blown and pictures taken with Father Christmas, there was no shortage of fun for the little ones.
Sophia Parsons, who brought her four children along for the evening, was blown away by what was on offer.
“It seemed so much bigger than last year,” she said.
“We got to what we thought was the end and we were only halfway through. There was so much to see.”
Kristen and Sean Richards and their three children could not stop raving about the event, and 10-year-old Abi particularly enjoyed all the sounds and sweet things on offer.
“I really enjoyed listening to all of the wonderful music pieces and the slushies,” she said.
Mother-of-five Aneke Smit was amazed at the spectacle, which kept the children entertained.
“The kids were very excited about the lady on the stilts — they called her the tooth fairy,” she said.
“We love the community feel of so many locals coming together. It’s great to see so many getting support over Christmas.”
