Work began last week to clear the way for the new Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre on the former St Patrick’s College site on Bayly Street.

The majority of the site’s buildings have been cleared to make space for facilities including four classrooms, a commercial training kitchen, spaces to create art and manual arts, and wellbeing areas for the new centre run by Edmund Rice Education Australia.

The original St Patrick’s building at the site’s front will be preserved due its historic significance.

Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre principal Gerard Keating previously said he was eager to see the first EREA purpose-built CARE school facility in WA built in Geraldton.

“Our young people deserve a warm and welcoming place for our staff to be able to provide them with greater learning, engagement and wellbeing opportunities,” he said.

The centre will be funded from a $650,000 Federal Government capital grant, a State Government-supported $2 million low-interest loan and a capital development loan taken out by the centre, with the backing of the EREA.
