Free lawyers and financial counselling for the cyclone-affected
Lawyers, financial counsellors and tenant advocates are providing a free service to cyclone-affected people in the Mid West.
They are based in Geraldton and spending a fortnight visiting nearby affected areas to conduct legal health checks, provide initial advice and where necessary refer people to pro bono lawyers for ongoing assistance.
The team will also take referrals for financial counsellors and tenant advocates to support people who need ongoing assistance.
Regional Alliance West representative Chris Gabelish said they can help people make insurance claims, deal with disputes, mortgage stress and financial hardship, debt, employment law problems, housing/tenancy complications and replace important documents.
“It’s helping you deal with your issues, your assets and your futures,” he said.
While this is a free service, it’s not charity
“If you would prefer to make an appointment time to limit time off your property, please call us on 9938 0600.”
This week they visit Mingenew on Monday; Morawa on Tuesday; Mullewa on Wednesday; Kalbarri on Thursday and Northampton on Friday.
Next week they visit Three Springs on Monday and Perenjori on Wednesday.
The group includes Legal Aid WA, Regional Alliance West (RAW), Community Legal WA, Law Access, Law Society of WA, The Financial Counsellors Association of Western Australia, Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia and Aboriginal Family Legal Services of WA.
