I-MED launches advanced MRI machine in Geraldton, giving communities north of Perth a closer service

An advanced magnetic resonance imaging scanner is operating in Geraldton, providing communities north of Perth with faster and more accurate health diagnoses. I-MED Radiology, located at St John of God Healthcare Campus, has launched a 3Tesla MRI and claims it is Western Australia’s most advanced MRI scanner north of Perth. The new MRI scanner offers faster scan times and improved image quality and accuracy. It was launched last month and is available for public and private patients with a referral. Regional manager Campbell Finlay said I-MED Radiology was providing the latest technologies and comprehensive imaging services to rural communities. “This advanced MRI machine is a significant boost to local health services,” he said. “We are thrilled to be able to provide the community with the same caliber of world class medical care as that offered by the best clinics in our capital cities. “The Geraldton community now has quicker and more direct access to high quality diagnostic imaging all without the need to travel to Perth, which is the closest location providing comparable levels of MRI imaging.” MRI machines can scan soft tissues such as the brain and spinal cord, ligaments and muscles, liver and pelvic organs and other tissues that do not show up well on X-ray or CT examinations. It is understood Medicare rebates are not available for the MRI service. I-MED declined to comment about the associated costs for public referrals.
