There is a new champ in town after Paul Dodson took out the win during the Geraldton Croquet Club’s annual club championships on the weekend.

The two-day event was played over June 22-23, with members from the club going head-to-head to find the best out of the 11 participants.

Dodson came out on top, clearing the competition with an 8-2 record and net hoops of 21, only dropping games to Peter Clift and Sharkey Ryan.

It was a close contest for the top spot, with three different competitors all falling short with a 7-3 record in Ryan, Wendy McDonald and Charley MacSween.

Ryan finished as the runner-up for the event, with a net hoops of 18 while the next closest were MacSween and Clift who finished on nine each.

As club champion, Dodson has now earnt his spot to represent the club in Perth for the Champion of Champions event, which pits all the State’s club champions against each other.

The tournament was recently won by Geraldton’s own Paul Christmass in 2022, and now Dodson will have a chance to reclaim the title on August 3-4 at the Cambridge Croquet Club.
