Albany City Kart Club revs up for Southern Sprint with hot junior talent lining up for a shot at State glory

Albany City Kart Club will host the annual Southern Sprint this weekend, part of the 2025 State Karting Series, with young local drivers lining up for a taste of State competition on their home track. Drivers will compete in cadet 9, cadet 12, KA3 junior light, KA3 junior heavy, KA2, KA3 senior championship, tag 125 restricted light, tag 125 restricted medium, tag 125 restricted masters and tag 125 light divisions in two days of exciting racing action. A highlight will be big fields of entrants in the KA3 junior light and cadet 12 categories. Club president Andrew Hannig said the major meeting was was a great opportunity for young drivers to enter their first State series competition, and said the Albany club had a line-up of young drivers ready to test themselves against the quickest in WA. “It’s good for the for the younger ones to be able to experience the high level of competition on a track that they’re comfortable on,” he said. “It’s great for our juniors to race against the best in the State without having to do the huge amounts of travelling they sometimes have to do for these competitions, and we have a lot of juniors that are the best in the State, so it’s also a good opportunity for us as a club to show what we can do.” The three-day event will see the 138 drivers compete across 10 divisions, with practice sessions on Friday followed by racing and finals over Saturday and Sunday. Hannig said club members pride themselves on running a well-organised event that can measure up to metropolitan competitions. “We’ve run it for a few years now, as part of the State series,” he said. “It’s good for the club, showing the metro clubs what country has to offer and bringing numbers down to the region, and at the end of the day getting some money into the club and down into the region as well.”
