‘I’m dating Alex … Do I need to know more?’: Woman’s haunting last post before violent, abusive partner killed her

The haunting last Facebook messages sent by a woman in the weeks before she was stabbed to death by her boyfriend have been revealed. Angela Silk – also known as Angela Goodwin – died at the hands of her abusive partner, Alexander George O’Sachy, in 2021 after she was stabbed in the leg during a violent domestic dispute in Brisbane. O’Sachy is due to be sentenced for her manslaughter after pleading guilty at the Supreme Court earlier this week to the downgraded charge. But any sentence is cold comfort for Ms Silk’s grieving family, especially for her children who have lost the guiding light in their lives. The proceedings have also shone a light on O’Sachy’s link to the deaths of two teenagers and the fatal overdose of another woman he was in a relationship with. O’Sachy was first charged with murder in September 2021 when authorities found Ms Silk’s body in his Upper Mount Gravatt property. Weeks before the grim discovery, Ms Silk took to Facebook asking members of a page – titled Keep Alex O’Sachy In Jail – about concerns she had after reading several posts made by members on the page. One post written by her read: “I am dating Alex … Do I need to know more about this..?” Underneath, she continued: “Hello … I see no harm in talking to you about THIS … I am still a bit bewildered … And I think I need someone to help me with my confusion abit (sic) … I’m pretty sure on that … So please if you don’t mind … Yes please … I need to talk to you … At the moment I can text only … Please and thankyou (sic).” The post in question has since been deleted but at least one member of the page sent Ms Silk a private message. A day before she was found dead, some responded to Ms Silk’s original post, asking if she was OK and “safe”. By this point, media reports were confirming O’Sachy had been charged with Ms Silk’s murder – and they were being shared under the initial post. “Pretty sure she’s the lady that was found deceased in his home last night. Huge crime scene on Wishart Rd (in) Upper Mount Gravatt,” one woman wrote in response. “This post is haunting. I just read the first comment from Angela. Rest in peace,” another wrote. It is understood the Facebook page in question is dedicated to monitoring O’Sachy’s movements in the wake of the death of Leanne Thompson, 15, back in 2006. Leanne and O’Sachy were in a sexual relationship – despite him being 13 years older than her – and living in the same Upper Mount Gravatt home at the time she took her own life on September 7 that year. In 2013, Coroner John Lock found that the relationship was marked by violence and abuse from O’Sachy, then aged 28, and he supplied her with drugs. O’Sachy had been heard telling Leanne to kill herself on multiple occasions, including on the day she died. During the proceedings, he was charged with contempt of court for refusing to answer questions at the inquest. He was charged with aiding her suicide but the charge was dropped in 2009 when a Supreme Court jury failed to reach a verdict on the charge. In 2012, O’Sachy pleaded guilty to unlawful carnal knowledge in relation to his sexual relationship with Leanne. In September 2011, O’Sachy’s then girlfriend Lauren Howarth died in what was later ruled as a drug overdose. There was no suggestion O’Sachy was involved in her death. O’Sachy has also been linked to the death of another teenager, Andrew Anderson, who shot himself on July 23, 2005 and died in hospital days later. He was just six weeks shy of turning 15. A coronial investigation into Mr Anderson’s death found that he had become friendly with O’Sachy and had spent the evening of July 22 using alcohol, marijuana and amphetamines. O’Sachy was not charged with any wrongdoing in relation to his death and was in jail when evidence was being taken for the inquest. In her findings, Deputy State Coroner Christie Clements said: “He (O’Sachy) was completely unhelpful and obstructive in withholding information from the inquest.” ‘Lengthy’ history of violence, drug offending During O’Sachy’s first appearance on Monday, the court was told he had a “lengthy” criminal history dating back many years. Crown prosecutor Dejana Kovac told the court that O’Sachy had more than 50 offences, which ranged from unlawful wounding, to drug trafficking and breaching probation. That history includes the conviction for unlawful carnal knowledge related to Leanne Thompson. Ms Kovac told the court the attack on Ms Silk was “almost identical offending” to an incident in 2008 where he was convicted of placing his hands around another woman’s throat and stabbing her in the leg with a steak knife. Ms Silk had confided to friends that O’Sachy was inflicting physical violence on her, including that he once struck her with a baseball bat. She also said she was “terrified” of him. Ms Kovac said neighbours heard a woman screaming on the night of Ms Silk’s death, followed by “get away from me”. She was found in a pool of blood by a man who came to the house to investigate. The court was told O’Sachy threw a towel at him and asked for help and did not call an ambulance at the request of the witness. He ended up phoning triple-0 19 minutes after the stabbing. Paramedics found Ms Silk on her back, suffering “significant” blood loss from a stab wound to her left thigh that had almost severed a major artery. Blood-stained clothes were discovered in the washing machine and sink and the bed had been stripped. Ms Kovac said O’Sachy had prioritised cleaning and “controlling his story”, lying to authorities that Ms Silk had a history of self-harm. Supreme Court Justice Tom Sullivan is expected to sentence O’Sachy on October 7. Domestic Violence helplines
