Rangi Hirini: The ultimate guide to buying Blak this Christmas

Christmas - it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

As you get older the holiday becomes more and more expensive, and gift giving can get harder.

To make things easier, I’ve decided to help by giving you a list of First Nations businesses to support this festive season.

Supporting Blak-owned businesses is an important step in giving self-determination back to First Nations people.

But sometimes it can be hard to figure out who are 100 per cent Blak-owned organisations, and who are simply ripping off Indigenous people.

One of the key tools I use to find ethnical businesses is via Trading Blak - the organisation has both a website and social media accounts to give you information about 100 per cent Blak-owned businesses.

And if it’s not listed on Trading Blak, that doesn’t mean it’s not 100 per cent Blak owned … asking questions should always be welcomed by businesses.

Unfortunately, however, there are businesses that will rip off culture for profit and this is an issue many are finding hard to decipher.

In the middle of 100 per cent owned, and 100 per cent ripped off - sits collaboration and partnerships.

One of these collaborations includes the recent Adairs and Miimi and Jiinda deal.

It includes more than just beautiful bedding and would be a great addition to your Christmas list.

So who else can you support? Here is my list of suggested businesses:

Nungala Creative sells some pretty cool tops such as the ‘Future is First Nations’.

Gammin Threads tees have been featured on my YouTube channel and is a personal favourite of mine.

North has some pretty amazing clothing that sells fast so get in quick.

Maara Collective recently walked the runway at Australian Fashion Week with much success. Their clothing is more on the expensive side but totally worth it.

Take Pride Movement has some really great t-shirts that have been worn by some of the NRL’s top players.

Ngarrumii clothing is to die for, and their patterns are a must for your wardrobe.

With over 16,000 followers Deadly Denim has some great jackets to go with any summer dress.

Clothing the Gap tees have been worn by every AFL club. They also carry a lot of great accessories.

Looking for active wear? Try Jarin Street.

Maybe some swimwear for summer? Try Liandra Swim or even Yukuna Glow who also do makeup

Moving onto jewellery...

The queen of bling - Haus of Dizzy has been worn right here on PIB, and even Drew Barrymore has rocked some of her earrings.

Ngumpie Weaving has some amazing earrings, perfect for making a statement this summer.
