Horses will be thundering across the tracks for the first Wednesday meet in the 2023-24 season at the Geraldton Turf Club. The mid-week meet will feature eight races across the day with the first scheduled for 1.24pm. The Great Western Insurance Brokers Maiden kicks off the actionwith Struck By Luck and a New Zealand horse Dr Lump Sum to debut. Following up is the MWCCI Maiden, which features the well placing Holy Spy from trainer Willie Parker, as well as another two horses on debut, with On the Mark and She Hates Me. Chix Chatter will be a hot contender in race three, as the local horse has made a name around Geraldton in recent years under trainer Gordan Spowart and jockey Chris Nicoll. Events four and five feature the longest races at 1618m, with the Tabtouch Better Your Bet race five having a large field of 13 horses. They include many recent winners at Geraldton including Mooniemia, Juruena Gold and Where’s My Lunch. Race seven at Geraldton is the Damien Oliver, A Champion Meet, which honours the legendary jockey who announced his retirement earlier this year and will ride for the last time on December 16. In the final race, the track will have a 14-horse field for the Beachlands Plumbing handicap, with Parker-trained Glass Off and Peppi Grove the hot favourites. The gates will open at noon on Wednesday, November 29 with free entry to the course.
