Mid West Gascoyne triangle to experience temperatures up to 52C during third week of heatwaves

Hotspots in the Mid West Gascoyne are expected to soar to a staggering 52C this week, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, as the region enters its third consecutive week of extreme heatwaves.

Meteorologist Jessica Lingard pointed to Gascoyne Junction as one of the hottest locations in the region, expected to reach 48C on Tuesday and Wednesday, 44C on Thursday, 43C on Friday but heating up again to 46C on Saturday and 49C on Sunday and Monday.

“If you look at that triangle in between Onslow, Carnarvon and Mt Augustus, on Tuesday we’re seeing some 52C,” she said..

The area, which is bushland, does not have an official observation station, but is expected to be the hottest point in the region.

Coral Bay is expected to remain in the mid 40Cs for most of the week, experiencing some “reprieve” on Thursday when temperatures drop to 39C.

“These are some extremely high temperatures considering Coral Bay is a peninsula surrounded by water,” Ms Lingard said.

Geraldton is forecast to reach 43C on Wednesday before cooling down to 37C on Thursday, 34C on Friday, but heating back up for the end of the week to a forecasted 37C on Saturday, and 42C on Sunday and Monday.
