State Government funding boost to art galleries and groups in Geraldton, Carnarvon and North Midlands

Art galleries and groups across the Mid West and Gascoyne will share in more than $200,000 in State Government funding to upgrade their facilities. Under the public regional galleries improvement fund, $314,247 has been allocated to eight country galleries in a bid to enhance access to high-quality arts and cultural experiences for regional audiences. Recipients of this funding can receive up to $25,000 for minor functional improvements or to secure new equipment for exhibition presentation, and up to $100,000 for projects involving significant enhancements to venue infrastructure or systems. The investment will also boost the galleries’ capacity to attract touring exhibitions. The North Midlands Project Inc — which covers an area including Carnamah, Coorow, Eneabba, Leeman, Mingenew, Morawa, Perenjori and Three Springs — is a big beneficiary in the latest round, using $98,034 for art storage facilities. The Shire of Carnarvon has also received $58,176 for stage-three upgrades to the Carnarvon Art Gallery, while the City of Greater Geraldton will use its $50,825 allocation for lighting upgrades and to install a modular wall. Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk said this funding helped ensure high-quality arts and cultural experiences were delivered to regional communities. “From Carnarvon to Albany, these upgrades will give more West Australians the chance to enjoy professional touring exhibitions and local works in fit-for-purpose venues,” she said. Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson said this investment would help regional towns attract visitors, support local jobs and create new opportunities for artists and communities. “This funding means regional communities and those exploring our great State won’t miss out on the kinds of exhibitions and experiences that people in Perth often take for granted,” he said.
