TV star Humphrey Bower to perform adaptation of Australian classic An Imaginary Life in Dampier and Cossack

Australian TV and film star Humphrey Bower, known for his roles in Blue Heelers and Queen Of The Damned, is bringing his adaptation of David Malouf’s classic novella An Imaginary Life to Dampier and Cossack. An Imaginary Life, written by Australian author David Malouf, is about the ancient Roman poet Ovid during his exile in Tomis on the edge of the Black Sea, who befriends a “wild boy” who is found living in the wilderness. Mr Bower will perform his adaptation of the award-winning novella with musician Pavan Kumar Hari on June 21 at the Dampier Community Hub, and then at the Bond Store in Cossack on June 28. City of Karratha mayor Daniel Scott said the work was a unique and interesting interpretation of the story. “We are proud to support projects like An Imaginary Life which demonstrate the power of the arts to transform spaces and bring people together,” he said. “This performance is a great example of how creative storytelling can connect deeply with both place and community. “We remain committed to fostering opportunities for artists and sharing unique experiences with our community, and invite everyone to join us in celebrating this remarkable event.” The presentation is part of an artist-in-residence program, delivered over two weeks, focusing on connecting deeply with place through sound, storytelling, and community engagement. A workshop will also be held before the two performances, with sound designer Kingsley Reeve revealing the process of tuning in for natural acoustics of a room.
