Beloved South West agriculture show steps into future with region’s first drone show

A beloved South West agricultural show is stepping into the future, debuting the Harvey region’s first drone light show alongside their annual fireworks.
This year’s Brunswick Agricultural Show will provide a new spectacle, with 100 drones flying above the crowd lighting up the night sky with stories of the region’s history.
Brunswick Agricultural Society president David Power said organisers had wanted to have a drone show for several years — a dream made possible by local supporters.
“The show will start with a welcome to country, paying respect to those that were here originally, and then showing the heritage of the Brunswick area,” he said.
Mr Power said the show would highlight the traditional farming of the region, and the well-known Brownes Dairy, as well as Brunswick’s Italian heritage.
“The theme of the show is showcasing arts and culture, so we just want to pay respect to the history of the local area,” he said.
“There will be a cow in the sky.”
Mr Power said funding from Alcoa Australia, Lotterywest and Southern Ports had brought the show to life.
He expects it will be a highlight of the event, though he said there was much more to enjoy at this year’s show.
“The show is traditionally an agricultural show, and that’s still very strong to our roots, so there will be plenty of agricultural machinery, plenty of entertainment, sideshow alley, wool spinners, live musicians, DJs, a bucking bull and the grand parade at the end of the day,” Mr Power said.
“As long as the weather’s good, everyone will have a great day.”
Alcoa’s Wagerup community relations manager Tom Busher said it was the first time Alcoa had supported a show like this outside of Perth.
“When David bounced the idea off us we just loved it — bringing something different to a regional community,” he said.
“The way the show seems to want to go, I expect that there will be a lot of people attending and they are going to find a real ‘wow’ factor.”
The Brunswick Show takes place on October 25 at the Brunswick Show Grounds.
