A rubbish fire at a property in Rosa Brook has prompted a smoke alert in WA’s South West.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an alert at 12.57pm on Monday for those in Osmington, Rosa Brook and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

The smoke is not expected to clear until Tuesday.

Emergency WA has advised motorists to avoid the area and residents in alert zones to do the following:

  • Shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
  • If driving through the area, turn on headlights and drive slowly. If you cannot see clearly, pull over to the left, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
  • People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
  • If affected by smoke, contact your doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.
  • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
