What you need to know about the Iran conflict today
- The Australian Government is considering contingencies on how to bring home tens of thousands of citizens stranded in the Middle East as the US-Israel war on Iran widens, Defence Minister Richard Marles said, describing the situation as a “very significant consular challenge”.
- US President Donald Trump has delivered his first public address since the conflict erupted, saying the US and Israel could not wait any longer before striking Iran. The attack on Iran was “our last, best chance to strike” and to eliminate the “intolerable threats posed by this sick and sinister regime”, Mr Trump said.
- The US embassy in Riyadh was reportedly struck by two suspected Iranian drones, sparking a fire and prompting an urgent “shelter in place immediately” warning for American citizens in Saudi Arabia. No injuries have been reported.
- A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard official has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed, vowing Iran would fire on any vessel attempting to pass through it, according to Iranian state media.
- Three US fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defences, though all six crew members ejected safely. US Central Command confirmed the American death toll has risen to six after recovering the remains of two previously unaccounted-for personnel.

Two drones intercepted in Dhofar
Oman has intercepted two drones in the south-west region of Dhofar, according to the state news agency.
There are reports a third drone crashed near the Port of Salalah.
Th Oman News Agency has not reported any casualties.
Ukraine offers up their expertise
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has extended an offer to the United Arab Emirates for help in defending against Iranian Shahed drones.
Ukraine has dealt from near daily attacks against the specific drones from Russia ever since the Moscow invasion, and has offered up their expertise to the UAE.
Zelenskyy said on social media that he has spoken with UAE president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to help protect lives.
IDF working to ‘intercept the threat’ of Iranian missiles
The Israeli Air Force is working to “intercept the threat,” following claims that Iran had fired a second launch of missles in the past two hours.
The IDF confirmed that “defense systems are operating to interecept the threat”, and an alert had been sent out to locals in the area.
“The Home Front Command issued a preliminary directive directly to mobile phones in the relevant areas,” the military said.
Iranian missiles launched to Israel, military claims
The IDF has claimed more missiles launched from Iran are heading towards Israel.
It is the second launch of missiles towards Israel in the last two hours, the IDF say.
IDF: Iranian regime has been ‘dismantled’
The Israeli Defence Force are claiming the Iranian regime’s leadership compound has been “dismantled” after announcing it had struck the location earlier on Monday.
“This command headquarters was one of the most heavily secured assets in Iran,” an IDF statement said.
“The compound that housed the regime’s most senior forum was struck by the IAF overnight using precise intelligence.
“The leaders behind this terror regime, and the headquarters in which they sat, have been eliminated.”
Hezbollah willing to fight ‘open war’ with Israel
Hezbollah’s media office have stated the group is willing to fight “open war” against Israel, after honouring over 15 months of a ceasefire deal with the nation directly south of Lebanon.
Senior official Mohamoud Komati says Hezbollah has no choice but to “return to resistance” since the ceasefire which ended the group’s war with Israel in November 2024.
Mr Komati also criticised the Lebanese government for labelling Hezbollah’s strikes against Israel illegal, saying Israel has been airstriking parts of Lebanon since the ceasfire was announced.
““The Zionist enemy wanted an open war, which it has not stopped since the ceasefire agreement,” he said.
“Let it be an open war.”
Oil and natural gas prices spike again
Prices of oil and natural gas have risen again on Tuesday, amid fears supply could be threatened worldwide as the war rages on.
Brent futures climbed 6 per cent to $82 a barrel as US markets opened, as did WTI, which also climbed 6 per cent to $75.6.
Hezbollah’s ‘centres of gravity’ hit in Beirut strike, Israel claims
The IDF say they have hit Hezbollah’s “centers of gravity” in Beirut, after warning residents to evacuate due to proximity to “weapons storage facilities” and command centres of the group.
The assets were “operating under civilian cover”, the IDF has claimed.
Death toll in Iran more than 780, society reports
The Iranian Red Crescent Society is reporting at least 787 people have died in Iran since the US-Israeli strikes on Saturday.
US news agency HRANA is reporting the number “stands at 742”, which includes 176 children.
Israel claims it has hit Iranian regime compound
The BBC is reporting “numerous” Israeli munitions have struck the Presidential Office and Supreme National Security Council, which is the Iranian regime’s main leadership compound.
“Additional key regime infrastructure” were also struck according to an IDF statement on Telegram.
Although former Ayatollah Ali Khamanei was regularly located at the compound, it is not the same location where the former Supreme Leader was killed by US and Israeli strikes on Saturday.
