Fremantle spearhead Josh Treacy has praised fellow forward Jye Amiss, commending the “selfless” role he plays for the team.

Amiss kicked two important goals, including the opening major, in a blistering first half as the Dockers fought out a crucial win over Hawthorn at Optus Stadium on Saturday.

The 21-year-old also had five score involvements and one goal assist in the 13-point victory, which moved the club back into the top eight with six games remaining in the home and away season.

Treacy, who had 13 disposals and slotted a goal of his own, said despite his doubters, Amiss has continued to have an impact.

“I’ve been really proud of him because he does a lot of selfless work for our team and a lot of work off the ball for me, especially,” he told SEN.

“So it was nice to see him really jumping at the game well and set the tone for us on the weekend.”

The critics came for Amiss after a slow start to the season, including a career-worst three-game goal drought, with calls for him to be dropped in a bid to find form in the WAFL.

While Amiss conceded he hadn’t been “hitting the scoreboard” as much as he would like, the East Perth product said he would continue to work hard to contribute to the team.

“Internally, the coaches feel like I’ve been playing my role, the contest has been really good,” he told Fox Footy post-game.

“Sometimes it’s not about kicking goals as a forward, it’s about competing. I’ll keep competing, I’ll keep working my backside off,and opportunities will come.

“A bit of it is on me, obviously I’m still a young player and still learning so much. These last two weeks I’ve really started to build.”

With three goals from his past two games, Amiss’ season tally has reached 20, putting him fourth on the Dockers’ goal-kicking charts.

It’s far from his incredible 41.17 return from his second season, when he entered the competition with a reputation of remarkable accuracy, and still 16 goals shy of his 36-goal haul from 2024.

However, a strong back end of the season could turn that around, with games against West Coast, Carlton and Port Adelaide looming as opportunities to fill his boots.

Amiss kicked a season-high and equal career-high four goals against the Eagles earlier this year.
