It’s the most-watched US sporting event of the year - and all eyes are on whether it’ll be the Patriots or the Seahawks who are crowned NFL champs.

In a rematch of the league’s decider from 2015, New England - led by quarterback Drake Maye - and Seattle - helmed by Sam Darnold - will go at it after both made unlikely surges this season to the title game.

And when the action pauses at half-time, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny will take to the stage to put on a show, fresh off his Grammy win for Album of the Year.

Follow all the developments from the day below, with the game set to start at 10.30am EDT (7.30am WA time).

Reporting LIVE

Walker crowned MVP

Kenneth Walker earns Super Bowl MVP honours. He’s just the fifth non-quarterback in the past 17 Super Bowls to take it out.

135 rushing yards, 26 receiving yards, and gave the offence energy early on when no one else could get going.

Mike McDonald speaks

“We’ve got the best fans in the world... we love each other... and now, we’re world champions,” Seattle coach Mike McDonald says on the podium.

Kenneth Walker shouts out the ‘12s’ - the fanatic supporter base in Seattle.

And then Darnold on stage praises his teammates and coaches for believing in him.

“Our defence, man... hey 12s, make some noise for our defence.”

Persistence pays

Sam Darnold: 5 teams, plenty of doubts. And now, he’s a Super Bowl champ.

Here’s how he reacted in the minutes after the win was secured!

Story of the game

Seattle didn’t get a superb game from Sam Darnold - who threw for 202 yards and one touchdown pass - and the league’s Offensive Player of the Year, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, only had 27 yards on 4 catches amid injury concerns.

But the defence will be the story today. Shutting out the Patriots through three quarters, and coming up with big play after big play to set the tone. They were unbelievable.

GAME OVER: SEAHAWKS WIN 29-13!

The Seahawks have done it - and the celebrations begin!

Aussie Michael Dickson is a Super Bowl champion, and well and truly deserves it after producing a series of pinpoint kicks today.

The defence was outstanding and set up this win, while Kenneth Walker may be Super Bowl MVP for his superb rushing efforts. It’s been a team effort!

Two minutes left...

It remains 29-13, Seattle safely possessing the ball, and ticking the clock down.

It’ll be a Seahawks celebration in the next few minutes!

TOUCHDOWN PATRIOTS! 29-13

It’s likely to be only be consolation, but the Pats have another touchdown here!

Maye scoops a pass to Rhamondre Stevenson, and it’s back to a 16-point split with 2.21 remaining.

70,823 the confirmed crowd in San Francisco.

SEATTLE TOUCHDOWN! AND THAT WILL DO IT!

It’s a strip and score for the Seahawks, and they will be the champs!

Maye tries to throw long while under all kinds of pressure from a blitz, but is stuffed by a Seattle defence that has been oh-so good today.

The throw attempt ricochets directly into the arms of Uchenna Nwosu, who cruises into the end zone and ends this thing as a contest.

29-7 (where has all this scoring come from?!) with 4.27 remaining.

Six Seattle Seahawks sacks

Try saying that six times quickly.

Maye gets pinned AGAIN... but recovers a couple of plays later to extend the drive into Seattle territory...

FIELD GOAL: Seattle 22, New England 7

The Seahawks take the safety of a close-range field goal, and the buffer is out to 15.

5.38 left in the game. The Patriots need two touchdowns (with one of them a two-point conversion). It’d take a miracle, but we’ve seen it from them on this stage before...
