Super Netball 2025: West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan says they’re yet to play their best despite unbeaten run

West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the competition, declaring they’re yet to play their best netball despite stringing together a Super Netball record 11 consecutive wins. Fever sealed the minor premiership with a 73-56 victory over the Giants at a packed RAC Arena on Sunday, ensuring they remain unbeaten since round three. They are also now two games clear on top of the table with one round in the home-and-away season remaining, giving them the right to host the major semifinal and putting them within reach of a fourth grand final appearance. Yet despite their dominant run, Ryan was adamant they had another level to go to as they looked to win their second premiership in four years. “We’ve been really keen to celebrate the win and then look pretty deeply at where we can keep improving our game,” he said. “And each week the training environment has challenged us with something different and each game has been slightly different to the one just gone as well. “That mentally has held us in good stead. We just want to keep getting better at our craft individually and collectively as a team every single week. “I still believe we haven’t played our full 60-minute best netball yet. We’re showing great signs that we’re heading in the right direction and credit to the players, they’re all doing the role that they’re required for the team really well, consistently. “We think there’s more in us and that’s what we’ll keep striving to get better when we get back into the training environment.” Ryan said he loved that the group was ruthless in their approach to get better each week and not be satisfied with their previous performance. “I look at our training environment where you get a Sunday Aryang that goes up against an Olivia Wilkinson and Liv is learning so well because Sunday is just trying to kick her ass all the time,” he said. “One thing that hasn’t sat in our environment has been a level of complacency or a level of contentment that we’re happy with where we’re at. We always want more and that’s the choice we make. “This time of the year we just look for those little one per cent gains and I think there’s more in all of us in our respective roles. We’ll see if we can find that in the coming weeks.” It is a remarkable turnaround for Fever who were bottom of the table in round two having lost their first two matches. Superstar shooter Jhaniele Fowler returned against premiership contenders Melbourne Vixens the next week, a game Ryan said was a “swift turning point for us”. “We knew in the early couple of rounds that Jhaniele would come back at some point in time, and we’d be able to have a level of confidence of what our team looked like,” he said. “The first two rounds were pretty challenging and asked a lot of questions of each of the players and the team and everyone involved as to where we’re at and where we’re going. “I look at that Vixens game in round three as being a very swift turning point for us and just the confidence we got from it and the growth that I have seen in all of the other players around Jhaniele, I think that’s what’s most important.”
