Woman critically injured after ute ploughed through a food court in Launceston

A woman is in a critical condition after a ute ploughed through a Launceston foodcourt at lunch time.
The ute struck a 67-year-old woman when it crashed through Morty’s The Food Place on Wellington Street about 12.20pm on Wednesday.
The woman was rushed to Launceston General Hospital in a critical condition.

Inspector Aleena Crack said it was not yet clear how the incident occurred, but the male driver was also hospitalised.
She said the crash caused a power outage in the area, as well as significant damage to the front of the building and infrastructure inside the foodcourt.
“Part of the investigation will involve looking into the CCTV footage at the complex and in the surrounding area, which should give us a bit more direction about what has occurred,” she said.

Thai Express employee Carmen Thu told the ABC she was working inside the foodcourt when she saw the car coming in.
“I just felt shock,” he said.
“My husband was actually out the back, so the car actually banged into the back, the wall has collapsed.”
