Braiden Leigh Husbands: Geraldton man who lashed out at ex-partner’s grandmother handed 10-month order

A Geraldton man who lashed out at his ex-partner’s grandmother in a fit of rage has been placed on a 10-month community-based order.
Braiden Leigh Husbands appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with making threats to kill, breaching a family violence restraining order and criminal damage.
He had previously been convicted of making threats to kill on September 1 and placed on a community-based order, which he breached with these new charges.
The court was told Husbands had been separated from his ex-partner — and they had a three-year-old child together — for more than 12 months when the offending took place. The woman has a family violence restraining order against the 22-year-old man.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Beau Jones said Husbands attended a house in Wandina looking for his former partner on October 1 this year.
He began banging on the front door, woke up her grandmother and requested to speak to his ex-partner, who was not home at the time.
Husbands then became enraged, picking up a chair and throwing it at the lounge-room window before smashing the window of a vehicle belonging to his ex-partner’s grandmother.
Police located Husbands asleep in his vehicle at Cape Burney and arrested him.
Lawyer Veronica Randall said Husbands accepted it was the wrong thing to do and cited his declining mental health.
The court was told Husbands was currently engaging with the community drug and alcohol services team.
“This is a young man who still needs assistance,” she said.
Magistrate Angus Hockton cancelled Husbands’ current community-based order and placed him on a new 10-month order.
“They are here to help you, you may as well get something out of the sessions,” he said.
