Praise flows as Tubby hits milestone game

Nathan Tubby was invited to write a piece on his 150th game and thoughts on life membership with Railways.

“No mate, I’m just a tradie, I’m no good with words, you do it, just don’t say I played for Towns as a junior, ” he said.

Tubby, from all reports, doesn’t only do good things on the field. All say he’s a champion bloke off it.

Former Geraldton Guardian journalist and Railways star Taylor Courtland played in the 2010 and 2011 premierships with Tubby.

“He’s the best clubman I have seen, and is in the top three footballers I played alongside, ” Courtland said.

Tubby, the refrigeration mechanic turned electrician, has won five club fairest and bests (a record), is a JJ Clune medallist, twice won the GNFL coaches award, won a Country Week best, has been selected in the CW All-Stars, is third on the Railways best player list of all time, won this, won that.

Last Sunday, when awarded the best player yet again, Tubby said: “Don’t win next week for me, win it for yourselves”.

Brigades have started 2015 better than any club. But on Sunday they will have to be at their very best, if only for the fact the Blues will not only be playing for themselves — but Nathan Tubby.
