Retired financial planner Peter Mercovich may have won STM’s $10,000 Karrinyup shopping spree but when it comes to spending the winnings, he’s under no illusions as to who is in charge.

In fact, his wife Carol already has a wishlist ready for when the pair hit the shops at the newly redeveloped $800m shopping centre.

And though they share seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Peter said they’re looking forward to splurging on themselves.

“My wife’s a bit of a shopper and she’s looking at maybe some … pearls or something like that,” Peter said.

“She’s getting pretty excited about what she’s going to buy.

“I still haven’t given it a lot of thought.”

Winning the prize — which includes $10,000 to spend at Karrinyup stores that take in JB Hifi, Sephora, Zara, Rebel Sport and Polo Ralph Lauren — was a family affair for the Attadale retirees and longtime The Sunday Times readers, with Carol buying a copy of the newspaper and their daughter helping Peter put through his entry.

“We’ve got a local shop and part of my ritual on a Sunday is to go up and get a takeaway coffee and bring the paper back and read it every Sunday,” Carol said.

“I love the STM and I love all the gossip stuff.”

Designed to mark the relaunch of STM, WA’s only glossy magazine, the competition continues this Sunday with two more chances to win the ultimate $10,000 shopping spree at Karrinyup.

To enter, look for the code word inside STM this Sunday and on October 24.
